Cold mailing is one of the most important skills a man can know. A lot of success depends on luck and opportunities. And knowing this skill can help you unlock a lot of opportunities and engineer your own luck.

This is the Ideal template that I would use while writing cold mails:

The purpose ๐ŸŽฏ:

Always keep in mind that the purpose of the Cold email is to warm the target person up. Never Pitch! Never sell!
After you have had a little chat, take them to the call then and pitch then, not now.

Introduction ๐Ÿ‘€:

Introduce yourself by speaking about your relevance (Your experience, industry) and why do you want to connect with the person?
See this from the reader perspective and talk about their relevance, not yours.

Research, research and research ๐Ÿงช:

The more you research about the person the better you know what his interests are, what topics you should talk about and how do you catch his attention. This is the key.

Crisp it up โœจ:

Keep it short and simple. Speak about something relevant to the person and don't use short forms or jargon that might be hard to interpret or might be misleading.

General tips ๐ŸŽจ:

Follow general email/ DM etiquettes. A crisp subject line. Easy to understand language. And you know the rest, just don't be annoying.

Drop the hook โš“:

This is an important step, that a lot of people don't understand. Always end with a simple easy to answer question, that can be answered with a simple yes or no
This reduces the friction and makes it easier for the other person to reply back without much thought. This will make sure that the next person replies.

Improve your chances ๐ŸŽฒ:

Use a reference, a request, pedigree or offer help
  • a reference: You definitely won't deny someone when a person whom you know well refers something or someone
    • Template: xyz referred me to you (xyz - a person with whom your target/ lead is acquainted.)

  • a request: People love to teach others, give them genuine praise or request and they would be more than happy to help you.
    • Template: Hey I am 17 y/o old, I really love the way you do this. Could you help with this?

  • Offer Help: If you are willing to help, people are too.
    • Template: Hey, I saw this thing on your website... I can help.

  • Use Pedigree: Use your pedigree, if it's likely to help in that condition.
    • Template: I am from xyz university, or I am 12 years old, or I am from xyz community...

Follow-up

If you still don't get a reply, follow up 5-6 times ๐Ÿคต , but not just a simple follow up (like any updates?). Add value in each consistent stage of follow up.
